Forms of hosting services

A hosting solution implies stockpiling and/or sharing specific web content on a hosting server managed by a web hosting distributor. There are different groups of hosting services used for different goals, so let's take a look at these. Doing so, you can decide what you want, based on whether you'd like to establish a blog, e-mail aliases, or to share files with buddies and associates.

- File hosting: a solution offered by particular file storage providers, which allows you to share huge files. These could be disk images, films, audio files, archives, etc. This solution is also known as file storage, and its sole objective is to share files, since it does not support site uploading. The moment the files are uploaded, you will either get an accidentally generated download link for each of them, or you will be able to view an index of all the files in a directory, but you will not be able to open .html or .php web site files in your browser. Free file storage accounts frequently involve adverts beside the download links, while a timer makes you wait for a specific interval of time to see them. A given file can be downloaded with restricted speed. If you get a paid file storage account, there are no limits as to how many files you can upload/download at once, and also there is no limit when it comes to the download speed or the file size.

At the moment, with the help of the cPanel hosting traders, "file hosting" is being renamed to the more modern "cloud hosting". This is an entirely incongruous explanation of the actual connotation of "cloud hosting". - Email hosting: a solution dedicated to administering your e-mail accounts. Some distributors provide web hosting services for web sites, but do not provide an e-mail hosting service. If you desire to run an email address with your domain name but do not want to have a site, then the e-mail hosting service is what you need. You can create e-mail address accounts and manage them, but there will be no hosting service for the domains. The e-mail hosting service includes incoming POP/IMAP and outgoing SMTP e-mail servers.

- Video hosting: this solution allows you to upload and share video clips. You can either share a link to some video, or you can embed the video clip in your web site that is hosted somewhere else. The benefit of utilizing this approach instead of uploading the video clip in a hosting account is that the video produces a specific amount of central processing unit load, so with a handful of videos and several hundred web site visitors, you may have a problem with your webspace hosting resources. Embedding the video file will allow you to run as many videos as you want without bothering about system resources.

- Web page hosting: this is the service that you need if you wish to keep a web site.
